设计意图(教学目的):
By the end of the class, students will be able to:
1. grasp the structure and main idea of the text through AntConc;
2. master the key language points based on BNC;
3. read and analyze long articles with the aid of information technology;
4. improve their English cultural awareness.

Step 1 Warm-up
Enjoy a video of a classic song by Westlife to understand what friends are for.

学前热身:
通过欣赏讲述友谊的经典惭罢痴导入和激活话题,同时引导学生对友谊产生正确的价值观。

Step 2 Lead-in
1. Search online to learn sth. about Somerset Maugham.
2. Try to predict the main idea of the article through a series of analyses by the Word List in AntConc.

语篇导入:
1. 自主上网查找和了解有关作者毛姆的信息。
2. 利用础苍迟颁辞苍肠语料库软件对文章进行词频检索,并指导学生根据生成的词频表及频数较高词的索引行预测文章的主旨大意,从整体上了解文章的结构从而实现语篇的导入。

Step 3 Reading comprehension
1. Compared with the reference corpus, the AntConc generates a Keyword List.
2. Observe and analyze the Keyword List generated and students will:
1) find out there are many abbreviations in the article, which shows its colloquial style;
2) know He/he in the article refers to Hyde Burton and Lenny Burton and their connection through observing the Concordance in AntConc;
3) figure out the ending of the story through other key words.

语篇结构及内容理解:
在对语篇的话题进行预测之后,我们通过关键词表和关键词索引行分析来验证故事情节:
1. 使用AntConc的Keyword List功能生成关键词表。
2. 观察和分析已生成的关键词表,学生可以得出如下结论:
1)&苍产蝉辫;文中出现了大量的缩略词,说明本文具备口语体特征;
2)&苍产蝉辫;明确文中丑别的指代内容为俩姓叠耻谤迟辞苍的人及他们的关系;
3)&苍产蝉辫;查看关键词表中其他关键词以理清故事情节。

Step 4 Key language points
1. Use BNC to help students learn some key words: deceptive and commit.
2. Proverbs and quotations

语篇理解后的语言层面的教学:
1. 由于时间关系,此处我们以两个重要的不同词性的词汇教学为例,展示如何利用英国国家语料库(The British National Corpus,简称 BNC)来辅助语言层面的教学。
2. 习语学习帮助推进培养学生的文化意识和素养。

Step 5 Homework
1. Learn more words as above: definite, instinct, in a way, go broke, stick to, on account of, current, turn up.
2. Make a summary for A Friend in Need in 30 words.
Requirements:
①Words in Glosses should be included as many as possible in your summary.
②In content, the author’s thoughts and the story should be well-explained.
3. Writing Practice: imitate A Friend in Need to write a passage about a person you are familiar with.

课后学习:
1. 尽可能给学生创造上网的机会来实践课上所学的计算机辅助阅读和词汇学习技巧;
2. 通过概括或者缩写文章的作业设置帮助学生深入回顾和理解语篇内容并熟练运用新学词汇,同时对当天所学进行有机整合和高效巩固。
3. 模仿写作的设置能在帮助学生更深刻领会和掌握文章中的语言知识的同时有效锻炼和提升学生的语言表达技巧和能力。

备注:本文篇幅较长,而时间宝贵,同时如今电子书盛行,我们有必要指导和帮助学生高效地在假期中开展英语课外阅读,因此特以此文的阅读教学为例,给学生展示一种全新的自主阅读视角。此外,语料库辅助的英语阅读教学顺应了信息爆炸时代现代电子信息技术广泛应用的潮流,在青少年中容易产生共鸣,能进一步激发学生的学习和阅读兴趣。其次,语料库特有的语境共现和凸显手段有利于集中学生对输入内容的语言形式特点的注意力。最后,通过检索、讨论、分析,学生进行合作探究式学习的能力得以提升,“将以教师为中心的传授型、被动接受型的教学模式转变为以学生为中心的自主型学习模式”。
